Compare trash quotes using the same service specification and the full expected cost. A lower advertised base rate may not mean a lower total bill once added charges, future terms, and transition costs are considered.
Write one description of what you need, and hand the same description to every provider:
Quotes built on different descriptions cannot be compared. This one page prevents most quote surprises by itself.
For each quote, build the full monthly number: base rate, plus every recurring fee the provider charges, plus taxes handled the same way in each column. Ask each provider directly: "What will the total on my monthly invoice be, with every fee and tax included?" If a fee "varies," ask what it has run recently and how it's calculated. Our guide to waste bill fees lists the usual categories to ask about.
The price is only half the quote. The term sheet is the other half:
A great first-year price inside a long term with loose increase language can cost more than a plainer offer. Read both halves.
Switching has its own price tags, where they apply: delivery of new containers, removal of old ones, installation work, and anything owed on the existing contract. Ask for each in writing — and don't assume they always apply, either. Some changes carry none. Unknown is not zero; get the number.
If you choose a new provider, plan the seam: the final pickup on the old service, the start date of the new one, and the day containers swap. Put the dates in writing with both providers. Good planning makes a missed pickup unlikely — it doesn't make one impossible, so know who to call if a date slips.
The final comparison uses written offers only. Anything a rep said on the phone either appears in the written offer or it doesn't exist. Where a number is missing, mark it Not provided and ask again — treating a missing number as zero is how surprise fees are born.
Blank on purpose — fill it from your own written quotes. Mark anything missing as Not provided, not $0.
